Supporting Education for Disadvantaged Children through ISEED: 150 School Kits for Internally Displaced Children in Bama, Burkina Faso

At 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻'𝘀 𝗦𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗲, we believe every child has the right to quality education, no matter their circumstances. As part of the 𝗜𝗦𝗘𝗘𝗗 (Support Initiative for the Education of Disadvantaged Children) mission, we set out to provide 150 school kits for internally displaced children in the Commune of Bama. On Friday, October 18, 2024, we proudly delivered these kits, filled with essential educational supplies, to the Provincial Office of Education in Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso. This milestone was possible thanks to the generous support of our community, proving the power of collective action.

Meeting a Crucial Need in Challenging Times

This project aimed to address an urgent need. Burkina Faso has faced immense challenges due to insecurity and displacement crises, which have forced families and children out of their homes and disrupted the educational environment. Internally displaced children face a variety of hurdles, from limited access to resources to adapting to unfamiliar school settings. School supplies, something many of us take for granted, can become a powerful tool for continuity, offering these children not only the materials they need but also a sense of normalcy and hope for a brighter future.

The school kits included notebooks, slates, colored pencils, and other stationery items essential for learning. We selected these items based on input from educators and local leaders, aiming to provide tools that would help children stay engaged and succeed in their studies.

A Breath of Fresh Air for the Educational Community

The delivery of the school kits was warmly received by the Provincial Director of Education. He noted that the initiative brought a “breath of fresh air” to the entire educational environment, which has been under strain due to ongoing displacement crises. The director emphasized that such support is invaluable not only for the children but also for teachers and administrators who strive daily to maintain educational standards despite these challenging circumstances.
